Buying your car

What is on the road price?
On the road price is the total cost of everything you’ll have to pay before you can take your new car for a spin. It includes the car’s list price and a handful of other expenses, including the following…
  • Delivery charge – this varies depending on the manufacturer but usually costs a few hundred pounds
  • First registration fee – the government charges £55 to register a brand-new car
  • Number plates – once the car is registered, the dealer will often charge you for printing your new plates
  • Road tax – the first year’s road tax is included in on the road prices and the cost will depend on your new car’s CO2 emissions
  • Fuel – to get you going, the dealer will put some fuel in the tank
